On Saturday, 3rd February 2024, Kanzi Kenya hosted the Visha Jamii initiative in Kibera, providing much-needed footwear to vulnerable children in the community.

In many informal settlements, children walk long distances to school barefoot or in worn-out shoes, exposing them to injuries and health risks. Through the generous support of Pastor Sammy Njiru, Kanzi Kenya was able to distribute shoes to 41 children—including 19 boys and 22 girls aged between 3 and 14 years.

To identify beneficiaries, the team partnered with four local schools—Cana Junior, Linda Care, Gifted Hands, and Fruitful—and conducted community visits to reach families most in need.

During the event, children were grouped by age to ensure each received properly fitting shoes. Volunteers assisted them in trying on their new footwear, creating moments of joy and dignity for children who, in many cases, had never owned a new pair of shoes.

Beyond protecting their feet, proper footwear can improve school attendance, confidence, and overall wellbeing.

While the turnout exceeded the available resources, the experience highlighted the growing need for continued support. Kanzi Kenya is committed to expanding partnerships and resources so that future Visha Jamii initiatives can reach even more children in the community.

Through collaboration and compassion, small acts—like a pair of shoes—can make a lasting difference.
